Shopify store launch checklist for small businesses
Check products, navigation, payments, shipping, mobile usability and order handling before opening a Shopify store to customers.
By Mohammed Ayman · 26 October 2026Prepare product and business information
Use consistent product names, clear images, accurate prices, variants, inventory and shipping details. Write descriptions that answer practical questions instead of repeating a supplier paragraph. Add contact details, policies and the business information required by your payment and shipping providers.
Organize products into collections customers understand. Keep the main navigation short and make important policies and support routes easy to find from product, cart and footer areas.
Test realistic customer journeys
Test the storefront on a phone and desktop. Check search, collection filters, product options, add to cart, discount codes, address entry, shipping rates, taxes, payment outcomes and confirmation emails. Include a failed-payment test where the provider supports it.
Shopify recommends placing test orders before launch. Confirm that the order appears correctly in the admin and that the team knows how to fulfil, cancel and refund it. Turn off payment test mode before accepting live orders.
Launch, measure and improve
Before removing storefront protection, confirm the subscription, store address, domain, payment method and test-mode status. Check page titles, social previews, analytics consent and the sitemap after launch.
Monitor product views, add-to-cart activity, checkout starts and completed orders separately. Customer questions can reveal missing sizing, delivery or product information; improve those pages before adding more promotional popups.
