Shopify product-page checklist: what to review before advertising

Review product information, options, mobile controls and the cart journey before paying to send more visitors to a product page.

Choose a representative product, not only the easiest one

Start with a product you intend to promote and add a second example with options such as size or colour. If the catalogue has sold-out variants, bundles or different delivery conditions, include those cases in the review. A successful check on one simple item does not validate every product.

Write down the product URL, language, device and intended customer action. Use a short log with “expected”, “observed” and “next action”. This makes an enquiry to a developer specific and helps avoid buying a new theme when the actual issue is missing product data.

Answer the buying questions with accurate content

The title and description should make clear what is included, who the product is for, its relevant specifications and any limitations. Use genuine images that correspond to the selected product. Do not turn supplier suggestions into unsupported claims or invent reviews, scarcity or performance results.

Before launch, compare the storefront with the approved product record. Check units, dimensions, materials, compatibility and contents where relevant. Shopify manages product details in its Products area; the merchant remains responsible for the accuracy of the information supplied. Missing information should be confirmed, not filled with confident guesses.

Check every option and its visible state

Select each relevant size, colour or configuration and verify the displayed price, image and availability. Make sure the selected state is understandable without relying only on colour. A customer should be able to tell which option will be added to the cart.

Try an unavailable option and a valid one. The interface should explain the unavailable state rather than silently adding another variant. Check that quantities and any custom fields behave as agreed. Record inconsistent behaviour for investigation rather than assuming it is a Shopify platform limitation.

Review the phone experience and cart together

On a phone, check the heading, product gallery, option labels, price and add-to-cart control. Look for text hidden beneath sticky controls, accidental horizontal scrolling and controls that require precise tapping. Repeat with long Arabic text and English content if both languages are offered.

Add a test item to the cart and inspect its name, selected option, quantity and price. Change quantity and remove it without completing a purchase. For checkout testing, agree a supported test method with the merchant first. Do not place customer orders, trigger real fulfilment or charge a payment method just to check a layout.

Publish only the delivery and payment facts you can support

Place relevant delivery and return information where customers can find it, using the merchant’s approved policy. Avoid “free shipping” thresholds, delivery dates or return promises unless they match the actual market and configuration. If details depend on the address, explain where the customer can see the applicable terms.

Payment logos should correspond to the intended meaning of the display. A logo alone is not proof that a payment method works for a customer or region. Ask the merchant to confirm configuration and provider approval, and distinguish an information link from a tested purchase option.

Prioritise fixes and measure the right stage

Fix purchase blockers and incorrect product information first, then confusing choices or mobile controls, then presentation refinements. An example developer brief is: “Review the Arabic and English product template for two specified products, correct variant presentation and verify their cart lines. Keep existing product IDs and approved prices unchanged.”

After publication, record the date and compare product views, cart actions and actual orders separately where reliable measurement exists. Traffic mix, promotions, stock and pricing can all change the result. A cleaner product page is a useful improvement, not a guaranteed increase in sales. Start with a scoped review before committing to a larger rebuild.
